    Hi All,

I just received a free 8830 for attending the promotional launching.
The unit is branded but unlocked.
I checked ADVANCED OPTIONS | SIM CARD <- MEPD and see that it reads 'SIM Card: Security Disabled'

My question is, can I use this BB on other CDMA and/or GSM networks?

I put in a GSM SIM card, manually set GSM mode and the scanned with no luck.
Similarly I put in a CDMA SIM card with the same useless result.

I see that a retailer in the city is selling 8830's and they appear to be both unlocked and unbranded.

Can I get my 8830 into a similar state?

    Thanks all!

You will not be able to use GSM in North America because it only does GSM on the Euro frequencies. You'll have to use a CDMA carrier.

So are Spint and an unlocked Verizon 8830's interchangeable on North American CDMA carriers?
