Default Can I force roaming or 1X service?

When I'm at work my phone (8830 Sprint) is crystal clear when the data is at 1X and when I'm roaming. The problem is that it gets just enough EVDO transmission to stay in whatever crappy digital strength I'm getting. Can I force my phone to roam or stay in 1X data range since I seem to get good call quality when that is the case?

Have to talk to cust serv about your reception problem? It is quite possible that you're having a software problem and can be remedy with just a phone call.

Press the manage connections icon on
    your bb desktop.
a screen pops up. On this screen put a check in box Mobile Network ROAMING
On same screen, scroll down to Mobile
Network Options press it. Next screen
Data services (on) Mobile Network, make
sure ROAMING is highlited in blue. Scroll down toNetwork Selection Mode, of the 3
choices pick ROAM ONLY. Below that the
    screen should show Available Networks
    and should only have roaming.
That's it, sounds complacated but you are
only dealing with 2 screens after pushing
    icon.
With Sprint that will get SIGNAL ON VERIZON, My plan has free roaming.

Out of curiosity, is there a compelling reason to stay with Spring and get Verizon coverage by doing it this way? Seriously.. do you save a lot of money on some package of minutes or features to do it this way? Otherwise I'm curious why not switch to Verizon?

Or is it you want the coverage of VZW but not the feature locking misery?
