With BIS, email gets pushed OTA. Everything else you sync by connecting your device to your pc, either by USB or Bluetooth. With BES (at least as implemented by my employer), email, calendar appointments, address book entries, tasks, and memos can all by synced OTA. In addition, BES allows the enterprise owner to control access to every part of the device by imposing IT policies on the device. My BES only imposes a password requirement. Some BES implementations prohibit access to the microSD card, the camera, bluetooth, installing 3rd party apps, etc.
