You should give up. RIM has specifically stated the 8330 is the oldest, lowest memory device that will get 5.0. The 64 MB devices simply don't have enough memory.

Ditch that sucker. I had the 8830 for 2 years and just dumped it for the 9630 Tour. Its lightyears ahead in speed and the screen is awesome.

Did I mention that its faster??! No more hourglass and waiting for my keystrokes to show up!

The 8830 is still a capable device regardless of it's 64MB limitation. The 9630 may have a higher resolution screen, faster processor, and more RAM, but it's still a CDMA device and will be bottle-necked by EVDO speeds.

If you are looking for a true upgrade, look at the HSPA models like the Bold 9000 and 9700.

Remember that the 8830 has been around for over 2 years and is still going strong while the Tour is scheduled to be replaced after only 6 months. That should tell you something.

Carriers are slowly breaking down their CDMA networks as they migrate over to HSPA. This is why the 9630 is a short-lived device.

Edit: Though it appears the 9630 supports HSPA, it only works at 2100 MHz, which no provider in Canada uses.

Yeah just goes to show that the older models sometimes tend to be better than the newer ones. My grandfather still uses the 7290 and I envy how good his battery life is its awesome. I won't lie I really like the tour but every once in a while I miss my 7130e and 8830 becaus eof the simplicity of use

    Not even remotely accurate.

That's hardly a bold statement to make. Unless you can find me a carrier in North America that supports UMTS/HSPA 2100 Mhz, you can't say it's inaccurate. It may be useful overseas, but last time I checked, Bell doesn't sell the 9630. You can still get the 8830, but they are pushing the 9000 and 9700 due to the network upgrade.

If other carriers choose to push the 9630 to make a few remaining dollars on it, so be it. I won't waste my money on a 9630.

I do own a Tour. I just miss the 8830 every once in a while. 5.0 would be awesome on it
