Trying to help a friend out with his BB 8830 WE. He is trying to update the OS, he currently has v4.2.2.196. Everytime we try to connect it, the PC doesn't recognize the device. It gives the "USB device not recognized". I tried all the tips that I found with a search, but nothing seems to work.


I was thinking of perhaps finding an old version of DM and perhaps that would work, but I'm not sure.


Does anyone have any ideas?

Does the phone charge ok?

Meaning you dont have to play with the cable to get the phone to charge do you?

Phone charges just fine. I just can't get the PC or Mac to recognize the device.

what usb port are you plugging into? Is it into a hub or direct? Try a different direct usb port. do you have a media card installed? is Mass Storage Mode enabled?
