For install instruction to load any carrier 8830 OS on your BB:
1. Back up data on Desktop Manager under Back up/restore option
2. Back up your 3rd party apps. Instructions here--> http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...cations-53201/
3. Disconnect your BB from Desktop Manager
4. Download desired OS to your PC
5. Install/run OS to PC
6. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
7. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
8. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.
Just installed 4.5.0.138. Went pretty smooth...found no differences yet. Memory leakage seems a bit better than .127. I still have not been able to find what changes were made. Anyone know what, if anything, they supposedly fixed?
Well folks, I did all that was outlined by others, and ended up with a phone that was unstable and locking up constantly (every 5 minutes the battery had to be removed).
I wiped the BB, and it was still unstable.
I then reinstalled the old version, ran the restore, and I am happily back in the land of the living...even if the OS is a bit weak.
I don't know if this is/was your issue but each time I upgraded from the 4.2 os, I would get the lockups. I read somewhere that erasing the xxxthumbnail.DAT files (some form of index file) found in the various folders on the SD card would prevent the lockups. It would take time initially to reindex all of my mp3 files and photos but the lockups stopped. I had to do this upgrading from the beta to the 135 Sprint version, too.
I have been running .138 for weeks and it is very stable on my BB. I haven't seen any real changes between this version and .127, other than I got ~2MB additional free memory. Memory management seems to be better as well, at least it seems like it.
PROBLEMS WITH THIS VERSION -- this is if in stalled on VZW 8830
1. TODAY THEME --- does not show your old calendar -- only new posts
Try going to Options>Advanced Options>Default Services
and see if it changed your email addy for your calendar.
I had a lot of settings changed when upgrading to this version (not sure why?) and it really was a bit irritating for about a week trying to get everything reset.
Make sure the one selected in the Default Services matches the one with all the entries in your calendar. It may be one you don't want for your calendar... several of us had email accounts become the default for our calendars we did not want
Another thing you may want to do is make 'default permissions' a lot more restrictive. After I did that the mysterious setting changes in various programs stopped, but you'll have to go through your programs one by one okaying everything (it's worth it).
