After dealing with several 8830 for couple months, here's the result:

    I. VERIZON 8830 WE

    GSM Portion:
    1. It is possible to be unlocked by calling Verizon Rep. ONLY. To Get the MEP2 code. All they need is your information and device ESN/PIN.
    2. Latest official OS 4.2.2.196:
BIS may only work only on certain network(not all) by using foreign SIM
card. You may try to find out.
    3. BETA 4.5.xx
BIS on all foreign SIM is locked due to automatic tunelling to apn:
emgsm.vzw3g.com(no way can replace this apn because it is embedded in
    net_rim_cldc.cod)
    CDMA Portion:
    1. MSL code is ##000000
    2. May be reprogrammed with Infosoft or QPST 2.7 build 215

    II. SPRINT 8830
    GSM Portion:
    1. GSM is factory unlocked but still tunelling to sprint network.
    2. On OS 4.2 BIS may work.
    3. On OS 4.5 BIS all dead.
    CDMA Portion:
    1. May be unlocked by using some programs to find MSL code.

    III. ALLTEL

GSM and CDMA all work fine on both os 4.2 and 4.5 because Alltel sets the APN free and open directly to Blackberry.net(no tunelling through cdma).

    hmmm...
I still don't understand on the part of tunneling through cdma you have mentioned on your posting.

    What actually tunneling means?

Does it mean everytime we put foreign sim card on 8830, the device will ask tunneling to verizon or sprint network?
If so, is there any interconnection cost between home and visited network?

Need your further information on this...
