Default Newest 8820 OS: v4.5.0.182 (Multilanguage)

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.306 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.306
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.182
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.106
* File name: 8820M_PBr4.5.0_rel306_PL2.7.0.106_A4.5.0.182_AT_am p_T.exe
* File size: 92.31MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download

This download is work on ANY carrier's 8820 model BB. (Not 8800 or 8830)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Adminstrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Already install the .182, nice it work perfectly. Fast, and the free memory is stable.

Hi, I don't think bbm.5.0's will operate with os4.2.
She better install this newest OS (v4.5.0.182), and then install the bbm 5.0.0.57. (she doesn't have to install the bb app world for it). But fyi this bbm5 and bb app world will consume many of the free memory in the 8820. I dont use them (stick with the old bbm) cause I just use the 8820 only for backup (secondary email's and little browsing).

Well, never. The 88x0 are officially in maintenance-only mode. Only 9-series gets the new OS. RIM has already stated that they don't have enough memory to run the full OS 5.0, and they don't believe it's worth stripping down enough to make it run. They're over 2 years old now, and have barely 32MB RAM - though RIM does continue selling them.

If you don't mind having a hackinOS, there are 4.5/4.6/5.0 hybrids out there with some 5.0 functionality.
