Meaning can I set up a different passcode at another time?
You can choose to use no password at all or to use a new password once the device wipes all your user data. However, if you have a backup on your PC from Desktop Manager that you wish to restore, you will need to know and enter the password correctly on the PC when you open Desktop Manager and choose to restore.

Default Thanks for your quick reply! Just to confirm...

after I enter the incorrect pass code 10 times, will it then automatically start rebooting/wiping all the data from the phone. What happens afterwards? Will turn on by itself again and then give me the option to reenter a new pin? Do I simply have click then "cancel" if do not want to have a passcode anymore and i am back in the main menu right away, so that I can start using it again? Also, sim card contact will not be deleted by the wipe, correct? Thx in advance!!

Will the attempt counter reset at some point or will it forever remember that I have already tried eight times?

It will reset when you either get the password right or get it wrong two more times thus wiping the phone.

I'm currently on attempt 5. I had my phone in my jersey while biking today and sweat got into the keyboard causing some letters to not type correctly. I'm keeping it in a bag of rice now to try to absorb the moisture but if that doesn't do it, can I plug it into the computer and unlock it from the Blackberry Desktop software? I do know my password; I just can't get the keyboard to type it right.

Btw, this is on my Bold 9000 but I'm posting on here because this seems to be a broader issue and this is a bigger thread.

You need to either remember the password and enter it correctly.

Or enter it incorrectly the set number of times and then the device will WIPE of all the data and you can start over.

    There's no work around.

    Hopefully, you have a backup.

Default Will it wipe my pictures & videos?

I meant to get all my pictures & videos from by BB before getting a new phone, but I let too much time go by and now I've forgotten the password. I don't care if the phone goes back to its original settings - its a toy for my kids now anyway.....I just really want to keep the old picts & videos. Will taking the card out while resetting it work?

If the media card is not encrypted, you can simply remove it and put it into your new phone. If it is, there's no way to recover it without the password.

    Are you using an 8800?

You can not unless you wipe the phone and all data.

There's no work around for the password.

Your options are to enter it correctly or to enter it incorrectly the set number of times and then the device will be wiped of all the data and you can start over.

Hopefully, you have a current backup of your personal data on the device.
