Can't set ringtone to downloades file

I'm new to using my Blackberry (8830 World Edition) and I'm having a little trouble. I have emailed myself some free ringtones. I've opened the emails, clicked the link, saved the file - all without any problems. I've gone into the profile settings to edit the ringtone associated with certain profiles and changed the 'phone' setting to one of the downloaded and saved ringtone. When I try to test the setting by calling my own phone the newly set ringtone doesn't ring - it stays set on the default sound. I'm following all the step-by-step directions that I can find online and nothing is working. Help, please!
