Am I the Only One Who Thinks My old 8800 Is Better Than the New 99xx?

Based on the review of the 99xx on Crackberry, I thought I would be finally willing to part with my 8800 and upgrade to the new world. What a disappointment. IMHO the keyboard on the 8800 is far superior to the 9930. If the 8800 could "bridge" to the Playbook, I would not consider upgrading at all. To make it worse, the cost of the 9930 is $249.99 (plus tax and case etc). For less than $500, I can buy a 64gb Playbook on eBay. Nothing makes sense to me any more.

One of the other alternatives is to upgrade to the 9810 at AT&T for only $49.99. Talk about a joke of a keyboard. The only thing the 9810 has going for it is a larger screen than the 99xx - and a much lower price.

My conclusion is to go with the 9810 and take the $200+ in savings over the 9930 and buy the Playbook from eBay.

Any suggestions or comments would be welcome.

Well, I recently revived my 8820 with OS 4.5.
Now I have a Curve 9360. Between the two I had a 9700 with all applicable OSs. Point being it was a slow transition to OS7 and it felt like a good upgrade.

But going from using the 8820 and the 9360 I must say HOLY MOLY!
How did we EVER find the end user experience on the 88XX acceptable?!

In my head I have always been like "oh this is a little better, but really the same", but using them back to back, every day. NO WAY I would ever go back to a 88XX lol

IMO...the 8330 was the BEST Blackberry phone ever made (just not enough memory). Rock solid and outstanding performance.......if I'm not mistaken the 8300 series broke the record for most phones sold previously held by Motorola Razar (dumb phone). Now that was a phone!!

I just bought the 9900, and I think it's the best of the best. My other Blackberry is an 8820, running OS 4.5. That 8820 has been dropped more than once without incident. It still works as well as when it was new. The Space Bar on the keyboard would sometimes tire out, but I was able to revive it by pulling up gently with my fingernail.

I think the 8820 is among the best RIM has made. The width feels like the 9900. It has worked almost flawlessly for me, needing only the occasional restart.

The fit and finish of the hardware are first rate.

I can't really compare to the 99xx, but I went from an 8800 to a 9700.

The 9700 running OS6 is still my day-to-day phone. I gave the 8800 to my wife who was using a cheap dumb-phone before that.

The other day I went to tweak some setting or something for her on the 8800 and couldn't believe how good it felt in my hands. It is lighter than the 9700 but still feels more substantial. The keyboard is just the right size for my bigger-than-average hands. Typing on it has a great old-school tactile feedback and just the right amount of audible clicking.

In all honesty, I would go back to the 8800 if all I did with my phone was phone, email & calendar.

I would go with the 9810. The 8830 is a great phone. But, the one thing that bothers me about it is that ist doesn't have a camera. If it had a camera and a little more memory, it would be awesome.

The 8800 was my favorite BB of all time. I miss it.
