I for the life of me cannot understand how to use the blackberry manager on my desktop (the software was downloaded, but i just cannot seem to work it). I want to be able to see my schedule on the desktop and sync back and forth from my crackberry.

The desktop manager will sync your schedule with outlook. You will need to open outlook to see your schedule and sync it with your BB. The desktop manager doesn't actually have a scheduling function, only syncing.
