Is there a way that I can configure my Crackberry to a higher SMS character limit than 140? Just curious because my old 7300 had much more charcters available for SMS'ing.

    Thanks in advance.

I believe no, at least no settings that I know of. But you should still be able to type more than your limit per message, it will just be split into 2 or 3 text messages. So the person who is receiving your message, will need to read it in sequence

Again, Chinesecatt is right. But, if its going to be a long, long one, you could just send an email, no?

Unless, of course you want them to get it on their device and they have no BlackBerry...

That's exactly right Navilyn, when I communicate with other people with BB's I simply use BB Messenger but for people that have reg cell phones, I use txt (sms). With my old BB I could go on a type a long sms and it would automatically send it in 2-3 parts just like Chinesecatt was saying. Now, with my 8703e it doesn't allow me to keep typing after 140 characters a "Field Full" pops up and I have to send that sms and restart a new one to continue the original sms.

It's not a big deal I guess just a little inconvenient and surprising that the old BB supported this and not the new one?

Ah, that device, 8703e, probably has the older software. I believe the 'multi-sms' option is on OS 4.2.1+...

Ok, I can't say that I've done all of my homework on searching the forum for this but I did come accross a few posts and threads about the new 4.2 software. I've heard that it slows down the phone, is this true? if not, I will d/l it asap. Just to confirm I believe you get that software from the wireless providers website?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks eZainny, I will try installing the new software and see what happens. Hopefully it can be uninstalled if something does go wrong or the performance of the phone slows down. I'll be sure to back up the BB before doing so. Anyone else with some input would be greatly appreciated.

I love this site, so informative!

    Cheers,

    hey, new to the site
I just picked up an 8703e and the 1st thing that frustrated me about it was the limitation on the sms spaces your allowed to type (150).
Does anyone have a solution to this yet?

Curious as well here, I have an 8703e with the same SMS issue...I was going to upgrade to 4.2.1 but for some reason my provider (Telus) only has Package Version: 4.1.0.492
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
