My 8700c suddenly stopped responding to the power button. I can turn it off via the icon on the screen. To turn it on I have to pull the battery and wait for it to reboot.

It works fine except that no matter how long or how hard I push the power button, it does not respond.

Hmm. Sounds like it may be time for a new phone.
