Outlook email become read when they are received by the blackberry

Hello I have an issue that I can figure out. I did some surfing and can’t locate anything about it.

I have several Blackberry 8703e's set up to receive emails via pop. My company is running exchange 2007; we are a start up and haven’t gotten to setting up a BES yet. I configured the devices with email settings. I typed in the username and password and got a confirmation that it was working. I sent a test email and all works, it sends and receives.

The issue I am having is in outlook. The emails will come in as unread in outlook, but when they come into blackberry inbox they suddenly become read in outlook. The emails are marked unread on the blackberry.

I can’t figure out why this is. If anyone can enlighten me as to why this happens or of a way to fix it, it will be greatly appreciated.
