Blackberry 8703e:
The MR which addresses the rebooting issue on the 8703 is now available online at RIMs website. Customers should connect their device to a PC with Desktop Manager to install the upgrade, as this will not be available over the air. The website for this update is: "https://wxw.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=FC3CF452D3DA8402BEBB765225CE8C0E"
I notice on the DL link that is has a file name link for: "8703eEFSBP_PBr4.2.1_rel201_PL2.3.0.25_A4.2.1.119_ Sprint.exe"
Sprint.exe is what I'm looking at.. Is this specific to Sprint?? I have Alltel
I have an Alltel Blackberry that I got from eBay, and it says it has OS 4.2.1.110 on it, but it is running very poorly. Some of the buttons do not work, but I think that the phone itself is just broken, so I am going to send it back. I was just wondering if anybody else had an Alltel blackberry with problems like mine.
i have the 8703e on the Bell Mobility network, the file says its for telus. i downloaded it anyway and followed all the steps but it never prompted to upgrade. i tried to sync it anyway too see what happens but nothings changed.
Attention VZW users, be sure to delete vendor.xml before you update your device. Sprint folks don't need to do this. And as always, everyone back-up your 8703e before updating since the OS install erases everything!
I have deleted the vendor.xml file, but I still get "No updates available" Is there something else I can do? Can I download the software from anywhere else? I currently have version 4.2.

Make sure you are NOT connected to the internet after deleting the Vendor.xml and attempting to do the upgrade, or alternatively, in the same folder where you delete the Vendor.xml, just double click on Loader.exe (I would recommend doing a manual backup of your BB via Backup&Restore in BBDM).
I just recently bought my 8703e online used... and is running the v4.2.1.119 (platform 2.3.0.25) - and was told by Sprint if the phone is running fine - not to upgrade. Had it for 2 weeks and all is well. Should I keep it as is - or do the upgrade?
Thanks for the link. I used this file from Sprint to upgrade my 8703e from VZW which was running 4.2.1.110 out of the box. I had no issues doing the update, thanks to reading some walkthroughs on this site, and the berry is running fine.

After clicking the loader.exe, then what? It asks for you to find either .alx or .ali files.
I got it, for some reason the vendor.xml had to be deleted twice. But I finally got 4.5 on my 8703e. I like that it has the silver verizon theme like the 8830/8330 instead of that old red one.
Please note this is the latest official Verizon software for the 8703e, BUT you can get later version from other providers, and in particular, Sprint has released 4.5 which you can find in another sticky. BUT if you want to stick with or go back to the official here it is! It is likely that Verizon will not release any other updates for this older BB.
