I don't have a bis or bes account. My blackberry is activated on a prepaid plan, so there's no way to get the browser service books. I don't have any way of installing apps over the air (that's the main purpose of what the bb browser does right?) Currently I have to use the desktop software to load apps. And for software that is in a jar format I have to use the jar to alx converter app. Is there a way for someone to send me their 8703e app browser as an ipd file?

Also when I installed this indicom 4.5 os, opera mini 4.2 would no longer work. I removed it and installed opera mini 5 in it's place. It just asks for permission, then it says "installing" but it never loads. Also I ran *228 after the update. The problem is probably with this os, because the Dataviz Docs to Go app in this update never was able to register over the network. So I'm going back to OS 4.1, then inching my way up.

Also I am staying away from desktop 4.7, as recommended in the "best" guide linked to above. But 4.6 is missing the wireless tethering function. Anyway to run them side by side or should I just use a different computer for each purpose?

Here's a little hint I discovered on finding os'es for your bbery:

search google for 'site:blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do <myphone>' where <myphone> is your model. In this case, 'site:blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do 8703e' works just fine. You can't search for a specific version, though. That info is behind the selection form. This also works with certain carriers, eg 'site:blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do sprint'

Okay, I was downgrading to 4.1.0 from 4.5 and when apploader was finished it said "0x0000000a application data could not be restored".

It boots up but there's no nice looking graphical menus, only a black and white textual one that says SavedMessages and Options.

Desktop manager doesn't recognize it but the bb device manager does. Hmmm, what can I do now?

Edit: Sorry about the plethora of posts. I solved it myself by doing the wipe as posted on howardforums.

I've had the same problem with 4.5. You've got to do a full backup of all your apps and data, do a full wipe, and reinstall 4.2 from scratch. The os upgrade process only goes to a higher os version.

This is a good guide I've used,
http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/prop...ocedure-53359/

BTW, I see a 4.3 and 4.4 os listed in the 8703e vendor.xml file. Does a 4.3 or 4.4 os exist for 8703's?

I need help. I just downloaded the blackberry desktop manager for Mac. I hooked up my 8703e to it and the software says it doesnt support the 8703. I downloaded the new software posted at the top of the page. how am I supposed to install the new software onto my 8703?

I should add that I buy and sell blackberries so I always have lots. I have piles and piles of 8703's, 7130's, and 8830's

Use the recommended wiping/reinstalling procedures. I'm not familiar with the mac, so try googling "mac wipe blackberry" or some variation.

Default Do not use on Telus network!

Hello guys,

As I said in the title, do NOT use this OS if you are using your 8703e on the Telus Network. If you do, after 24-48 hours, the phone will reboot as soon as it starts talking to the network (little arrows flashing).

I'm trying the next latest OS, that is 4.5.0.148 from Sprint. So far so good. If I don't report back, that means it's working fine.

I can't say if 4.5.0.165 causes the same behaviour on the Bell network, since they use the same frequencies/equipment.

Hope this helps somebody.
