Latest OS..Rogers will not work?

Trying to help my friend out,

He told me that if he was to load the latest OS for hes 8700, the phone will not work on Rogers network. Can someone confirm that...

Completely not true. He needs to delete the vendor xml file before he loads it to his berry first. If its unlocked too, it won't take that away either. Goodluck.
