8700 vs 8707 in the United Kingdom

So, I'd quite like to pick up one of the above because I really like the keyboard and the SMS app. I'm going to use it on giffgaff on the O2 network.

In the UK EDGE and 3G (UMTS) are both available, but am I right in thinking that the 8707 doesn't support EDGE, only UMTS? If so, which one is the best option?! Also, I read on Wikipedia ( Wikipedia - BlackBerry#CPU ) that the 8707 was actually slower.

Any thoughts?
