Trackwheel not clicking

The trackwheel on my wife's 7130 has stopped clicking. It does kinda work still, but it sometimes works without even being touched... I suspect a spring is broken or something of that ilk.

I would prefer not to send it away to be fixed... does anyone know how I can diagnose the problem myself and where I can obtain replacement parts from ?
