Message Indicator Shows -31

I did a software update and backup/restore to get the new version of software for my phone.

Now my phone indicates that I have -31 messages unread. If I get a new message it goes to -30 messages but as soon as I read/delete it goes back it -31. This is really annoying.

Is there a way to reset it?? I've tried turning it off/on already.

With the device on, remove the battery and replace it after 30 seconds.

After it boots up, see if it is back to normal.

Thanks that worked. I guess I should have tried it but I have only been able to get my battery cover off 2x and I tried to take it off at least 20 times.
