Making Phone Call Using a 7250

Hi All. I am a real newbie. Is there a way to make the phone always use numerics or do you have to hold the half moon key on the bottom left of the Blackberry every time you enter a number? I hope this is clear. I hold the half moon key hit a number, if i release it the key pad goes back to letters. This is a hassle especially to key in a number in a hurry.
I am happy to be a member and I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

I figured out my error. Not making a call correctly. Figured you had to click on the send key and get to the screen to type in the call number. Sorry to bother you all.
