Unhappy 7100i help with service books ??

i tried to download service books via the method of downloading and then using the desktop manager to install them. the restore part works just fine, but when i get to the application loader part the problem starts. it's not in the application name section and when i click 'add' to find it, it's in a ipd file and i get an error message saying

"error in application information file file location here. there is an xml syntax error on line 2"

and i click ok and get a popup that says

"no additional applications designed for your device were found"

i've tried downloading about 3 different sets of sercive books and the same thing happens each time.

can anyone help me with this?
