What OS7 is better for battery life 9900?
Guys,
I know you have seen sooooooo many threads and comments about the battery life of the 9900. i just want to make a quick poll, so i can choose the better OS7 for my 9900. i am running the leak version OS 7.1 Bundle 196 (7.1.0.74 Platform 5.1.0.75) and the battery life is horrible, my question is:
Which one is better?
.503
.540
.585

Battery life is a very confusing subject. When I was researching Android devices, I'd see one reviewer slamming a particular device for its terrible battery life, and the next reviewer would praise it for its battery life. The same thing happens here with respect to the 9900 and various OS versions. You won't get anything like a clear answer.
For example, you say that battery life with OS 7.1.0.4 is "horrible". What does that mean? Some people think anything less than two days is horrible. You may be one of them. A better way to approach it might be to monitor how much charge your battery loses in a single hour of just sitting there, not being used at all, in a strong reception area (-77 dBm or thereabouts). No apps running in the background; just sitting there. That at least gives a baseline. If it's high under those conditions it's going to be significantly higher when you're actually using the phone.
Post the result here and compare with what others are getting with similar setup. That's about the best you can do.
I'm doing fine now with the .585/.540 hybrid, but I can't say that it's the best. I don't know, and I'm taking a break from swapping OSes for a day or two. - 12-14-2011, 08:03 PM #4
Try it for yourself. Each device is different. I have used the .503 and found it perfect until my screen broke and bought a 9360 (battery life is even worse on curve than 9900, hopefully a new update comes out).

For me it's 503 hands down.
I can't run the batt down even on the heaviest of days. And this is what a heavy day is like (for me)--
Just under 2 hrs of talk. Bluetooth on all the time and most of that 2 hrs of talk are on the car's factory bt. Wifi on all the time. At least 30 emails incoming and 20 outgoing. About 30 sms in and out. Almost an hour of browsing. And constant logging into security cams through an app that's installed in my bb for checking some of my stores. On a day like the one I described, when I put my phone on the base at about 9:30 or 10:00, I'm not in a yellow alert situation.
As far as bugs-- there are none that I've identified (I could be wrong but I haven't noticed anything). I really wonder why no network ever picked that one up.

You better try it out yourself, sometimes my best tested OS is not best for other people.

Mine is .585; coming from the stock OS it came with. Not bad so far. i get about 14 hours with Heavy bbm usage and browsing.

i switched from the factory os to 7.1 and it is horrible. no exaggeration: i leave thehouse fully charged, and will send a couple texts and an email or 2 and literally an hour later im at 90%! im beginning to think its a battery issue!
I'm pretty sure Fonzie would use a BB

For me it's .540. However i didnt try .503 and .585. I am happy with my battery life on the .540 i can get around 25 hours with heavy usage if i am connected to wifi. If i am on 3G only it's very unstable. There has been days that I got 15+ hours and there has been days that my battery died in 10 hours (same usage/same covarage). But overall this is the best have found, i recommend it

Your carriers OS is best. Stick with it.
If you really want to know, why not go to the respective threads and read? You would have gotten more insight reading the threads than waiting for responses. Each build is different per user. Try all 3, each for a week and you'll find out which one is best for battery life.- Gordon

To really know you have to try it yourself BUT try .503 first if it is NOT that good, head over to .540

Try the Hybrid .585/.540.
Many reports from satisfied users.
See the Official .585 thread for details. - 12-15-2011, 03:48 AM #14
You have to try it yourself.
My expericene is:
.540 for heavy usage
.585 for best standby time.
That means:
.540 has the best batterylife with lots of surfing, bbm etc. - but the battery also drains "fast" with "just having it in the pocket".
.585 has the best "pocket time", but also the battery has not longer batterylife when you use it.
But that´s all I can say.
Others have different exerpiencesEasy come, easy go... - 12-15-2011, 04:26 AM #15
Never tried .540 and .585, but I'm all good now with my .503, compared to lower versions I had (.4xx)
Stand-by time is ok, BBM, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, and a little browse works ok for a day, but making long calls would easily drain my batt. I charge my phone whenever I want to, desk at home, bedroom & at the office.
Best bet is try it for yourself. What's good on others might not be good on you and vice versa. Really depends on each one's phone and usage. - 12-15-2011, 05:14 AM #16
It depends by usage patterns, network conditions and so on. Anyways, have been on every OS except 7.1, and for me the best was 503.
Most of the folks are very pleased by 540, but in my case it was not good one in terms of battery life, and have noticed it keeps battery quite hot. Was wondering that maybe had bad install, and after few days did a fresh one - unfortunately the same.
On the top of my list is the hybrid 503/585.
Probably it make sense to test both 503 and 540, and to figure out which one of the two works well for you, and then to move to 503(540)/585 hybrid

This seems to be normal, mine drops to 92% within the first hour then only drops 2-3% per hour for the rest of the day depending on my usage. I'm running 7.1.
I don't think I would rate the battery as horrible because of this, I'm not sure why it does this but mine acts the same way everyday, may be more of a software issue.Nokia 6265i>HTC Dream>Bold 9700>Torch 9800>Bold 9780>>Galaxy SIIiPhone 4>Bold 9900>Galaxy SII LTE>Bold 9900>iPhone 5>BB Z10 OS v10.1.0.1970 - 12-15-2011, 06:25 AM #18
I would totally disagree with this statement, my carrier is stuck at 7.0.0261 and battery life totally sucked, upgrading to the latest official (7.0.0.585) would be a safe bet and battery life is much better.
The only issue would be if you had a software issue and had to contact your carrier for help, they might ask which OS and give you a hard time, but I would get pretty upset with them if I was running the latest "official" OS from RIM and they had issues with that.
Now I like to tinker so I went with 7.1, and battery life is even better.Nokia 6265i>HTC Dream>Bold 9700>Torch 9800>Bold 9780>>Galaxy SIIiPhone 4>Bold 9900>Galaxy SII LTE>Bold 9900>iPhone 5>BB Z10 OS v10.1.0.1970 - 12-15-2011, 07:44 AM #19
I want to add something to my earlier post. .540 which i am usjg right now is my carrier's official one. I seem to notice that its been the best battery life, i wonder if its a coincidence.

Wow, thank you all for your post's, let me tell you, right now I'm testing the .540, and it has been very very good, I will try the .585 in a couple of days to see the difference

Any more on this topic? Currently I'm still on .540 on my 9900 and with all the new releases over the past month, I'm not sure which one to grab for the BEST battery life?
Or if I should make a change at all. Hotspot would be cool to have, but not at the cost of battery life. To me, it is king. Not sure how to do the hybrids, as I haven't kept up too much on the forums, but just wondering if I should upgrade to one of the later versions. Thanks. - 01-17-2012, 08:44 PM #24
For me I've tried .579 and the battery drain really bad, Now running on .261 and the battery consumption improved very much!!
Will stick to this version unless there's major changes in the new version.
