Having been a devoted BlackBerry user for about eight years - and having been "upgraded" by my company to a 9790 - I was dismayed to find that the screen now only fits five emails because it insists on putting the sender and subject on separate lines.

Various threads I have seen suggest that this is (a) deliberate by RIM and (b) hard-wired into the OS but a page on BlackBerry's own help site says the following:

"To change how many messages can fit on the screen, change the Display Message Header On field."

....which is supposed to be found in the Message Display and Actions screen. The only trouble is, I cannot FIND that field! It just doesn't seem to be there at all.

Anyone shed any light on this?

    Thanks!
    Tim

Messages > Options > Message Display and Actions > Display Message Header On: (then there's a drop-down saying 1 line or 2 lines.

Thanks - that's exactly where the BB help page for the phone says it will be found. However, the Message Display and Actions page only contains the following fields:

    Display:
    Display Time (yes / no)
Display Style (single messages / group by subject)
Display Order (name, subject / subject, name)
Display Message Count (none / unread)
Display New Message Indicator (yes / no)
Hide Filed Messages (yes / no)
Hide Sent Messages (yes / no)
Separators (none / stripes / lines)
Show Reent Contacts When Composing Email (yes / no)

    Actions:
Display PIN Messages In Red (yes / no)
    Auto More (yes / no)
    Confirm Delete (yes / no)
Confirm Mark Prior Read (yes / no)
Auto Open Newest Message After Removing Device From Holster (always / never / after sound or vibration)
Days To Keep Messages (lots of options)

Hmmm.....perhaps that is the reason! My OS is 7.0.0 Bundle 2356.

I'll find out if I am able to update to the latest version.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Interestingly, the BB help page that recommends that menu option is written with OS 7.0 in mind. Somebody at RIM evidently didn't read the memo that said it was only available in 7.1!

I have now upgraded to OS 7.1 bundle 2039 (version 7.1.0.714, Platform 9.16.0.158) and those additional options in Messages are STILL not available!

This is driving me nuts - does anyone have an official answer on this, or one even APPROACHING official?

    Thanks!

Question: how many messages can you see on your screen maximum, if you make the font the smallest? On a bold 9650 running OS 5, I can see 17 messages + one line showing the day of the messages. On OS 6, I can only see 8. That's terrible. No wonder Blackberry is struggling.
