Default Help with installing additional language in 7.1

My 9900 bricked yesterday morning (Error 517), and, in the painful process of resuscitating it, I have accepted DM's gracious offer to update OS to 7.1. All fine in the end, and I am quite happy with the new OS, but...

Now, I only have only language installed on the device - 'English US'. I somehow prefer working in 'English UK', so went back to DM to install it. To my surprise, I can't actually see any core apps on the list, just the 3rd party apps?

Have read elsewhere I should have 'the same OS installed on the PC' - can someone please explain to me what does it mean to 'install BB OS on a PC'? How I go about it, in steps?

Apologies for perhaps a lame question, I am not an expert at all...

    1. It was nuked not bricked
    2. You need to install he same OS on your computer that is on your device
    3. Make sure you delete vendor files
    4. Then you can see core apps
    8330 --> 8530 --> 9550 --> 9930 --> Z10

    Thanks!

    1. From the user perspective, same thing...
    2. [quote from my original post] "... what does it mean to 'install BB OS on a PC'? How I go about it, in steps?" [end quote]
    3. How do I "delete vendor files"?
    4. Looking forward to it!

7.1.0.523 is your current device OS correct? Hold alt+shift+h... look at app version.

Correct. And here's where I can likely download the OS file from:
    https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...666E3BE3.node1

    All languages version, right?

Ok... yes install all languages version.

    1. Uninstall any previous OS you may have installed on PC.
    2. Download and install the OS to your PC.
    3. If you have a Windows PC, change your folders option to show hidden files/folders
    4. Then go to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete the vendor file.
    5. Then go here and delete this vendor file too: C:\Users\*your user name*\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML.

*You need to delete the vendor file(s) whenever you are using an OS that is not from your carrier. A simple search of your c: drive should pull these 2 vendors up as well, but you must have enabled show hidden files/folders.

    6. Open up Desktop Manager and check to see if the core apps are listed in applications.

OK, downloading the OS file now - it's going to take a while...

In the meantime: if I am downloading (and will install) an OS that is from my carrier, I assume there's no need for me to delete the vendor files?

If it is your carriers OS... then no, don't worry about vendor files. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Post any further questions.

Success! I had an emotional moment when device initialization bar reached the end, and nothing has happened for a good couple of minutes ;-)
But back online now, live and kicking - with UK English, Traditional Chinese and Korean language support added.

Thanks so much for your help!

I thought I had the multi language version but I can't find the Spanish language input option. What am I doing wrong ? I'm also using a Mac.
