Good morning, I am sorry for the question but I cannot find the answer anywhere that is specific and I find conflicting information from different forums.

What I am trying to find out is whether the Blackberry Bold 9790 can connect to Wifi and access the internet without a sim card.

I understand that blackberries use the RIM system to provide authorisation, and that blackberry services will only work with a blackberry sim.

However can you access the internet via the browser, or use/download any 3rd party apps without the phone having a sim card installed.

Also to add to it, is this possible straight out of the box, or would it need to be activated at some point using a sim prior to it being removed to allow access.

Hope this makes sense and thank you in advance.

    James

See this Dear Berry: How can I use a BlackBerry without BIS? | CrackBerry.com

    Along with this http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...ut-bis-996682/

    And maybe this http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...m-card-315137/

If can be done, but you will be very limited in what you can accomplish.... much better to buy a cheap Android and use it, and there is no special security without BIS.

As for activation and setup... can vary.
