Wish to install OS6 on "New" 9300

I recently joined the 21st century (bought my first mobile phone) and bought a "new" Curve 9300 3G. (If you are wondering why I got an older technology mobile phone it's because I did not have to enter into a contract this way.)

So it is new out of the box (still waiting for delivery) but presumably with the old OS5 installed. My question is...if I downloaded the latest DM (for the Mac) what is the best setup strategy to get the new OS6 installed?

Do I run whatever the existing setup wizard is on the phone first, or do I just start the newest version of the DM and just plug in the phone and it will offer to update the from 5 to 6 and just carry on from there? Thanks in advance

It depends on who your carrier is. DM will only find and download the most current OS that your carrier has approved. I think most carriers are running OS 6 on the 9300 now. AT&T does, and if AT&T is running it, you would think everyone else is too.

However, if your carrier is not up to OS 6 yet, then your options are limited being on a Mac. Unless you can run Windows emulation, you can't download an OS from another carrier and install it outside of DM.

Either way, go ahead and start up the phone first as it may have to register itself with the mobile network. Just to be sure it all works. Then hook up to DM to see if an update is available from the carrier. Although you just may have 6 already.
