Will there be a big announcement tonight at the RIM General Assembly? BB6? Slider?
I believe I read earlier this month that the Yearly RIM General Assembly meeting (I think for stockholders) is tonight.
I wonder if they'll be a big announcement concerning BB6 or the Slider, or both? Maybe release dates? Or maybe they'll officially announce what past devices will support 6.0 so we can all stop speculating?

They talked about BB OS6, but they beat around the bush like nuts. They said 'very soon'.
They also talked about the web-kit browser. 100% on the ACID test, tabbed browsing, etc. (Things we already knew). They seem to be very proud of it.
What I noticed while watching this, there was a slide, and it was their partnership with many companies such as Adobe and it's products. (Flash 10.1). I also saw mentions of HTML-5.
They are taking questions right now. No mention of 9800. - 07-13-2010, 06:47 PM

"Very soon" isn't really saying much. It was soon months ago!
Since we're all under the impression that the slider will be the first device to release with BB6, and we know that ATT is field testing it, is it possible that part of the hold up is that ATT is waiting to release it? If they have a 3 month exclusive period, it could possibly be in their best interest to wait a few weeks. The longer they wait, the longer that 3 month wait is for other service providers, coming close to the holidays. Does RIM have any pull on MAKING a provider release a device?
I was really hoping tonight's meeting would have some concrete dates.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 9800 isn't released until the holiday season, much like they did for the 9700.

Exciting though... Hopefully "very soon" is actually very soon and still on schedule.

Nope was not announced!!
dang!
I really hoped when they were talking about Branding and they threw up the slide about the Pearl/Curve/Bold/Storm they would have slipped in, and NOW the Torch, but RIM is really blah at presentations, so I knew I was over hopeful
I would be very surprised, RIM wants to get OS6 out there, and Back To School is a Big Mobile phone buying time for Students, so they should be trying to capture that market with OS6oops...

100% on the ACID test doesn't really say much really.... the current browser hits like a 92 or 93 I believe anyway. It all matters how quickly it hits that test number. Also, we all know there's browsers out there in the world right now on the computer front that doesn't hit 100 on the ACID test that work great. Why is everyone so hung up on the ACID test?

What, RIM didn't announce any real news? More "very soon's" sprinkled with the ocassional "around the corner's", but coming up short of anything real and substantial?
What can I say. I'm speechless.

It's what they advertised in their slide. (It was actually the 1st point on the Web-Kit slide).
Don't kill the messenger!
I HOPE ATT doesn't wait til holiday season, when apparently Android's gingerbread will be out (apparently) and that will apparently BLOW OS6 out the water, visually. - 07-13-2010, 10:58 PM #16
im guessing the slider will be released to Rogers by the end of August or early september. Unnamed RIM devices showed up in T-mobiles road map for september and Rogers is usually the first company to get the new blackberry devices. If im not mistaken it took at least 3 months after the 8900 was released on Rogers to go to AT&T. Being a Canadian company, the devices usually hit Canada first. Fingers crossed!

Civic, really? I expected more from you. The acid test is not like a 12th grade chemistry exam. 92% is not comparable to 100% like you are thinking. Run it a few times on the native browser and you'll see different scores. Acid test is a bunch of tests and rendering of the shapes on the scren as well. So you have ace 100 out of the 100 tests AND then render the shapes in the correct position, overlap, and timing. It really is just a pass fail test. Getting a 92% does not mean you are better than a browser getting an 80% and it does not mean you almost made it.

Didn't RIM say at WES that OS6 would be out be the end of third quarter? Of course to them that does mean out for carrier testing which is already happening.
I don't think ATT will hold it too long. If they do I expect VZW will release it for S 2 and steal what little thunder comes with this.
I think RIM should start marketing OS6 against the Toy image of the iPhone. Even younger consumers don't want to be associated with a toy as they are trying to establish themselves as adults. Since this image is one the Apple fosters it would be huglt effective I think.

I agree, RIM needs to start marketing it that way because Apple is making huge strides in the corporate environment which will soon force that toy image to fade away. Multiple Exchange support in iOS4 is huge and I think RIM really has an opportunity to take advantage of Apple's misfortune at the moment.

Agreed. Apple PR is in the worst place its been in many years. The reception issue isn't going away, but has not his the "mainstream media" on MSNBC and FOXnews. Even local news stations have picked up the Consumer Report's studies that have just come out. Apple PR's response has been to lie and "pretend" as usual but this time no one is buying it.
I think in addition to the iToy business RIM should also really push their keyboards and the great speed advantage they provide most users over a touch screen (although with all the new RIM touch-screen devices coming out I'm not sure this would be best), but their keyboards are truly one of the best features of the phones. Why type out 1 email on the iPhone when you could do 2-3 in that time on the BB? - 07-14-2010, 01:06 PM #25
On the recent teaser blog post with the new video, we were told by the end of the summer. I'm banking on some leaks in August and then release to carriers throughout September. And The_Engine is right, Civic, you should look in to the things you troll before you do so.
Regardless, one thing I find intriguing is how we saw OS 5 leak for the 9530 in fairly early builds, if my memory serves me right, we saw a 5.0.0.140, and the 6 builds seem to be up to 6.0.0.100 now. Hmmm *strokes chin*My BlackBerry history is sad, but a work in progress!
9530: Pretty much every leak from .75 on up to .419
9550: .320 (for about 20mins), .517, .607, .713
I guess you can follow me on Twitter?
