Will OS6 disable surepress?
Or provide an option to disable it? The reason I speculate on this is because the new update for app world allows you to simply touch the featured apps to open them. I can't think of a logical reason to provide this functionality other than as a stepping stone to OS6 and App World 2.0. Just a thought. what do you guys think?

I really, really hope that's a bug. SurePress was a major factor in choosing the Storm series for me. Drives me nuts when it's not working in apps like Opera, which is the only app on my device like that. Gawd.

It very well maybe a bug, because the other thing I noticed is that the swipe is reversed on the featured apps.

I hate (yes, "hate") the non-click screen of the touch/iphone. Why, you might ask? It's because when I'm using Safari on my touch, I tend to curse a lot as additional, unwanted pages open up as I'm just trying to move the pages around. I DETEST that interface, despite some good features. I much prefer that I CLICK to CONFIRM my selection. My 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure the Slider is confirmed to not have surepress so I don't know whether or not all touch devices with OS6 will lack surepress but I hope surepress is here to stay. I also noticed the appworld "bug"... Time will tell I suppose!

The reason the slider doesn't have SurePress may be because of the full keyboard and trackpad. Hopefully SP is here to stay for the storm series.

Probably not. After all Surepress is one of the defining feature or technology of the Storm line.

As previously said though...whats the point of surepress when you have a physical keyboard?

and to play devil's advocate, conversely, what's the point of a physical keyboard when we have surepress?
(I know, I know--the one thing you get with a physical keyboard is more screen real estate when you need to type something. BUT, a physical keyboard isn't as versatile because it can't be remapped (think different languages) with software). Besides, a portrait style BB keyboard is a much different experience (I submit it's inferior--at least when I've used them) than the surepress storm keyboard. If BB was to make a landscape slider, I MIGHT be able to vote for that sucker.

The slider does not feature SurePress because part of VZW exclusivity deal for the Storm line also included the SurePress technology.

I love surepress, but I think people exaggerate their contempt for the touch hyperlinks in Opera. The most important purpose of surepress is typing. Clicking on icons and hyperlinks have never been a dealbreaker. I use Opera and Snaptu, and I still feel that I get to take advantage of surepress, on the keyboard.

I'm sure you've mentioned this before, but I'm curious as to how this has any effect on Canadian carriers.
Then there's the most common sense reason: the screen is too thin to incorporate the piezo actuators. I really don't think it would be a bad thing. The virtual keyboard provides a silent alternative to the clicking of the physical keys or SurePress. We can also be quite certain that the phone would include an actual vibrate motor. One of the worst aspects of the Storm2 is its terribly loud vibrate.

Man, if it weren't for surepress I would NOT bother with touchscreens. As dave stated earlier, I cannot stand navigating on other devices and opening up a freaking app unintentionally. That happened to me just about every time I played with a friend's device. Just gets on my nerves.
On the other hand, OperaMini has been teaching me how to maneuver around the "normal" touchscreen behavior. It's just that sometimes trying to enter in a link is bothersome. Don't know if Opera is to blame or the Storm's screen. If it did work with surepress that problem would not exist - 06-17-2010, 01:27 AM #24
Well I for one have grown very tired of surepress and I think it would be a really cool option to be able to disable it! And hopefully none of you trolls yell at me to go get an iphone. Believe it or not, there are more reasons to own a storm than just purely for its surepress technology.

I believe they were saying in the CB Podcast that surepress as we know it will not be in the S3, but will exist in a different manner. Not sure if its just speculation on their part or if they have it on good word from insiders at RIM...
