Can the 8900 be upgraded with the new operating system os6?

No, the 8900 phone hardware is not capable of running OS6.

In a few months OS6 will be obsolete when the new phones are released with OS6.1.

Even these Devices that has better Specs and is still a more Recent version than the 8900 doesn't get the OS6:
9630 Tour
9000 Bold
8530 Curve
8520 Curve

Only the Following devices will be getting the OS 6.0:
9800 Torch
9780 Bold
9700 Bold
9650 Bold
9330 Curve
9300 Curve
9100 Pearl

If you want to upgrade to a Newer, Better, More Recent version of OS, I've guess you are using OS 4.6, All BlackBerry Devices that can run OS 4.6 and 4.7 will be getting the OS 5.0. The First thing that my dad said when i upgrade his OS to OS 5.0 is:
- It's alot Faster
- Saves alot more Battery life
- Support more apps
