os 6 touch
I can't the be only person to have noticed this but I didn't see any threads addressing it. Everything I've seen from RIM showing off os 6 is done so with touch screens. There are far fewer touch screen blackberrys than there are those with keyboards and, to my understanding, only one storm is getting os 6 until the storm 3 comes out.
What I'm wondering is if os 6 will really be that great for those of us (I had a storm for a brief time) who don't like RIM's touch screen devices.

Look at the clam shell videos. That is your non touch os 6.

Plus didn't RIM first show OS6 on a 9700?

Of course there are many more non-touch screen Blackberrys, but advertising it on our old devices won't sell new ones. Have to show off the 9800 and make the customer want it.
If you like your berry now, OS 6 is just going to be an improved version, so I don't see why it wouldn't be "great".

There is a higher probability that something is wrong with you and NOT your new 9700!!! The sooner you accept that reality, the happier you will be. - 07-21-2010, 11:40 PM #8
Omg... People really... Are you a RIM engineer? Did you build the OS? How do you know its the same core? How do you know they didn't change a boat load of stuff at the core level? You don't... So stop assuming its the same it always has been with a "facelift" because simply enough you don't know. And you won't know until it releases... For all we know RIM build this from the ground up (unlikely, but possibly)... The only fact is that its still java, that's it, that's all we know. And if by Core you all mean Java... Get used to it, I doubt RIM will be leaving java anytime soon. Its a proven coding with high security, which is what RIM is all about for the most part. RIM will be opening more APIs and such for developers and making changes as it sees fit. /rant

Nor would there be any reason to leave Java. For all the complaining about Java I see here and comparisons to Android, it's like people don't know that Android is also a Java platform. Google customized it a bit so it's not quite bytecode compatible, but it's definitely Java. Java is a solid language and there's no significant benefit to moving away.
They might add new platforms. Their promotion of web-based development, Web OS style, seems to be going well. I could see them do something with Jython to add a new language on the same VM. But don't expect the core to change, nor does it need too.Taylor Byrnes
