| | No more love for us OS6 owners
Well I guess we are a dieing breed. No more support I guess. I'm glad OS2 for playbook is coming out. It gives me something to play with till later in the year when the new OS 10 devices come out. I been going through withdrawals wanting a new device but I want to skip the OS 7 devices cause they will be without support in a few short more months. I hate to get died down to a 2 year contract and have outdated equipment is a span of 6 months.

| | is RIM killing OS6? is OS6 done like OS5? Besides, the latest OS for your 9800 was just released 8 days ago. Personally, I'd wait for BB10 myself, but not because all prior will stop being supported. That has never been the case with RIM products.

Yeah, we're done with getting any real updates in OS 6. Just these minor bug fix updates from time to time.
I would love for RIM's new management to throw us original OS 6 users who are stuck with these phones for at least the rest of the year a bone. I'd like to see perhaps an OS 6.0.1 that uses the new icon set, has the ability to turn off the trays/panels, and has the new update contact capability. The kinds of things that does not require the fancy new hardware of the new phones.
But, alas, such new functionality will never he added to an existing OS.
I know there are themes that can give me the new icons, because I use one such theme now. The tray issue is more problematic with themes as removing the trays also breaks other aspects of the stock UI and brings out the bugs in the Theme Builder. The contact modification thing was shown off back when the previous incarnation of OS 7 was still called OS 6.1, and back when it was actually being tested on the 9800.

yeah ... definitely in the books of RIM - we OS 6 guys are done !!
all we see now are OS builds that I wouldn't ever care to say are bug fixes - rather its a trick the developers at RIM are playing very subtly with shuffling cods & sfi's from multiple OSs to churn out an updated OS (as its in their schedule and they gotta go by it or else someone would have to answers tons of questions to the very senior management).
ha! - well guess am stuck with this rut till we see OS10, and then its teething problems and in time - hopefully something stable and worthwhile to sink in money again ...

Are there examples through every OS series, where a platform doesn't change, or even reverts to an older one? Of course, but find me evidence of what you suggest. Please

I got an OS6 update just a month or 2 ago that fixed a major problem with Visual Voicemail.
Changing something in the theme does not require a new release of an operating system.
OS6 has all of the essential functions to run your phone, other than a lack of flexibility in organizing folders. What would you add to it that will not make it cumbersome, really?

How about the ability to manage the homescreen panes? How would that be cumbersome?
How about the ability to add info to an existing contact without having to edit the contact first? Not terribly important, but would be a nice feature. It's simply a menu item that becomes available when you come across a phone number or email address outside of the contacts app and it let's you add that item directly to an existing contact.
How would that be cumbersome?
These are all I ask.
The icons would be nice, but can be handled with a theme change - no big deal there. (Although when RIM updated OS 4.5 to 4.6, the icons got updated to the Precision icons of OS 5).
Remember, these very items were first shown off in Jan of '11. A mere 5 months after the release of the 9800. It was to be 6.1 and was actually tested on existing phones at the time. This was before the new phones got priority and the OS got bumped to 7 and got bogged down with all the added "liquid graphics", magnetometer, and higher end cpu requirement that is not needed for the few things I'm asking for.

Way off topic, but since we're talking OS6, I've been posting with no response: OS6 Dialing from Links on WebPages yes or no?
9800, ATT Current Official : 6.0.0.600
Answer here or there.
I would like to see that fixed (unless I am missing a setting, or maybe ATT finally releases an update that fixes this, while other carriers have already fixed it - have generally avoided non official OS updates - but I would do it for this functionality)

Jeez... just move all your icons into one jumbled mess on the "All" panel if that's what you want.

Do we "need" a compass, or NFC, or GPS, or wifi, or email, or internet access, or a flipping smartphone at all?
In the grand scheme of things, maybe not. But that's not the point. It's about simple features that help with the user experience. The trays were a complaint against OS 6 from the very begining. If you like them, fine. But don't suggest that those of us that don't like them are somehow idiots.
I happen to prefer to organize my apps into folders on the main "All" tray. I'd rather not have the homescreen arbitrarily flip to one of the other panels in daily use. Is that okay with you?
Jeez, indeed.

Jeez, indeed. | Everything you listed can be had easily, via any number of free themes. Fact is, when it comes to UI flexibility, OS6 is still light-years ahead of OS7, where we still wait for Theme Builder.

While I do occasionally use folders, I find it easier to flip through to the panel I want than to read through several folders that all look exactly the same as eachother.
