[Help] Upgrading into OS6 - Experts Only
My blackberry is a blackberry 9700. It's from the Philippines, and I bought it without a carrier: CDMA.
After much hype about the OS6, I decided that my OS5 needs to be upgraded as well, and so I followed this upgrade tutorial: BlackBerry 302: A complete wipe and clean install of your BlackBerry OS | CrackBerry.com
All was fine until Step 4: Loading your OS.
When I finally selected my OS6 from BBSAK "Load OS". It opened "Application Loader Wizard". Then I clicked "Next", it detected my PIN, I clicked next, and then it read the device and everything.
Now the problem is this: In the Device Application Selection part, when I am supposed to select/tick my OS. There's none, except for the words "The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator.
So now I am stuck with a paperweight.
Yes, I installed the OS6 first, I see it in the Programs and Features from the Control Bar. I was able to select the OS6 from the "Load OS" of BBSAK.
Hoping for your most expert reply. - 07-27-2011, 10:15 AM #4
Go to the C:\Program files\Common Files\Research in Motion\apploader directory and look for a file called vendor.xml. Remove that file if it is there. That file has coding in it that will only allow the software you downloaded to be installed on a specific carriers phones. If the vendor.xml file isn't there, the loader process can't check and will install the software on any phone.
If you are running a 64bit OS the vendor.xml file is in C:\Program files(x86)\Common Files\Research in Motion\apploader
Good Luck. - 07-27-2011, 01:31 PM #5
Actually, I have the same problem too. I just got a 9700 from bell.
Downloaded the OS - 9700AllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel2718_PL6.6.0.223_A6.0.0.61 5_Bell_Mobility_Inc
-installed it.
-tried installing it thru app loader, didn't find it. Only had basic apps like google maps, bb app world, a few games
-deleted vendor.xml file.
-rebooted BB, rebooted computer
-ran apploader again ... still displaying the same info, not showing the firmware.
-downloaded BBSK. Clicked load OS, and selected 9700AllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel2718_PL6.6.0.223_A6.0.0.61 5 .... clicked load,
-app loaded loaded again, went though the steps again and still did not find the OS.
Any help would be appreciated .
-I dont have a SIM in there right now. Not sure if that makes a difference.
-Using DM 5.01 (SP1) at the momentLast edited by epcjay; 07-27-2011 at 01:34 PM.

Updating DM, or reinstalling it after a CCleaner registry cleaning and disk cleaning, will likely solve this problem for the poster above (or below, forum settings depending).
For the OP, that vendor.xml file is a pest!

Did you delete both vendor files?
And you know the 9700 is NOT a CDMA device?

I think I am getting the same problem here. I followed all the steps how to update an OS, but still, my OS still runs at .600 instead of .615
I deleted vendor, ran apploader, waited for it to load, phone reboots but still runs the current OS. This is frustrating. - 07-28-2011, 01:17 PM #12
Try disconnecting Your PC from the internet while attempting to load the software. Happened to me 3 times, disconnecting from internet helps me every time.

@mio_BB: I tried that method too, but still no good installing the new OS.
I don't know what am I missing but here were the steps I followed.
1. I downloaded the latest OS and installed it on my PC. This is the only OS installed.
2. I plugged the BB 9700 unit to my usb cable, deleted the Vendor file and ran the loader.exe.
2.a.) I did other methods too like deleting the Vendor file first, then plugging the phone to my pc and loading the "loader" file.
3. Followed the steps on the pc, initializing installation... No problems at all. Took prolly 5 mins to load everything.
4. Prompted me installation successful.
5. Phone asks me to reboot. The white screen or hour glass loading not happening at all.
6. Once phone reboots, it's still on OS .600
PS: does the type/kind of USB cable affects too? Coz I am using a usb cable coming from Nokia, the phone-pc detects it. I can transfer files from pc-blackberry without any problems. This is the only thing I can think of that's why I can't have the OS updated. - 07-29-2011, 12:19 AM #14
Did you delete BOTH vendor.xml files? There's two now.
The new one is in c, users, [user name], app data, roaming, research in motion, in one of the 4 folders in there.

@SCrid2000: Ohh, there are 2 vender.xml files? I only deleted the one on the path C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoad
EDIT: Found the other vendor.xml on C:\Documents and Settings\Fait\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Thanks! Will try it again!Last edited by Fait; 07-29-2011 at 12:29 AM.

It's a new thing, only started happening in the last couple weeks. Most people don't know about it yet.

When opening app loader, try doing a battery pull and clicking next. This works best if not detecting a os
