dialing problems on os 6 on the 9650
When I try to dial on the keypad it takes me to the contacts page to pick a contact. It will not let me dial somebody that is not in my contacts list. Can anybody help on this situation. Thanks.

I think it's a feature of OS 6, I looked around and I can't find a dial from home screen feature, if you hit the phone key first you can of course type in any number but I know that's now what you're asking, unfortuantely, from what I can find, you have 2 options for what happens when you type from the home screen, universal search or application launch.

Yes I hit the green call button. When I get through typing the number which comes out in letters it is in the contacts screen with the search box at the top. It wants me to pick a number from my contacts list. Do I have a setting wrong ?

Right, both letters and numbers show up in the search box, but if you scroll down one from that you will see "dial" ex, if i type in 1800 i see wx1800 in the search box but right below that I see 1800 and the green phone, i can click that and it will call the number, hope I helped

Thanks I got it to work by going to the search icon in the top right corner in the home screen. It is crazy that you have to do that though. Looks like you should just be able to dial out from the home screen like normal but I guess not.

You don't have to use the search icon from the top right, ok:
1- From home screen, no matter what you have selected start typing the number you want to dial
2- You'll notice that when you start typing you see letters and numbers in the search box but directly below that white box you'll see "Dial: 'the number you typed' and the phone icon
3- Once you have the whole number typed either click the trackpad on that section (the whole thing will light up blue) or hit the send key.

You don't have to scroll down to the number to call, just press the Green send key after you dial the number. Same as it was in 5.0, just looks different.

Right or hitting green call button will also do the same... Less moves and more progression

Hit the green call button, scroll up slightly and start typing. Direct dial without hassles.

I wish there was a way to search for a contact by typing in their phone number in OS 6. I couldn't find a way, so I had to resort to getting Xobni. I use that for the times I need to search an old contact using their phone number.
