Angry APP ERROR 606....IS THERE A WAY TO SAVE MY DATA on my bold 9780.

I have been a blackberry user for at least 2 years. my first was a curve 8330. when i decided to upgrade I had many choices, android, iphone, or back to blackberry. i picked blackberry because anthough not as much eye candy, i figured very stable operating system. i convinced my brother to get a torch, Now i got an app error 606 and from what i am reading, the only current fix is to reload os, which will mean i lose all my data. there must be a better solution than that. my last backup is 3 months ago, and a lot of changes have happened since then. is there any hope that a "save my data" solution exists, or will exist?
....

Welcome to Crackberry.

You can try to put your phone in safe mode. Follow these instructions.
KB17877-How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in safe mode

From there I would delete apps one at a time (rebooting between each one), until you find the one that is causing the 606. This should work unless it's one of the core apps, then you are going to have reload the phone anyway.

Maybe in safe mode you can get a backup? I don't know for sure.

Thank you for your reply NetworkGuy. I tried the safe mode. The phone booted up through the progress bar, then a list of apps appears briefly, then the screen turns white and the "app error 606 .....reset" lingo comes up again. my information seems to be there, because the list of apps are unique enough to be easily identified as "my apps"!!!

Hi NETWORKGUY .....The thing that is so disappointing about this is that i have researched (googled a lot!!!) complaints about this error and its been around at least since december 2010 on the bold 9780 and torch 9800. yet RIM and my carrier, BELL/VIRGIN MOBILE CANADA, never saw fit to email us users and say, heads up guys, a fairly rare, but very serious os "bug" can cause your phone to "brick". as a precaution, please be sure to back up your phone daily... if they had done that , at least a person can be prepared. All i was doing at the time was surfing ebay. When i clicked on a "hyperlink" to look at an item, the progress bar went half way, phone crashed, and hasn't worked since. How much more benign can you get, than surfing ebay?? The other thing is that "blackberry Protect", a free back up app, has existed since fall 2010, and again, nobody saw fit to tell us about it. WOW guys, this is just not acceptable. Anyways, moving forward, I feel confident that SOMEONE out there has got the expertise to help save my DATA!!!

Hi NetworkGuy.... The other thing I wanted to mention is that I have been backing up data since my Palm PDA days 10 years ago. But my previous Blackberry phone (a curve 8330) was so reliable, that I had developed a very great level of trust in my blackberry.... a very stable OS is the impression I got. Having said that, I still periodically backed it up. I had miss placed my data cable for my current Bold 9780, so a few months had passed since my last backup. It bothered me, but i said, o well, it's a blackberry, its rock solid.

I've been working with technology for 30 years now. With all technology, nothing is rock solid. It's not a matter of if it will fail but when will it fail. I've seen people I support use USB sticks to "backup" their important data only to discover that the USB stick failed a couple of days before their hard drive did. I'm on BES so all my stuff is backed up all the time and I make sure our BES is backed up so I don't have to worry about it, but for everyone else without BES, Desktop Manager or Blackberry Protect are must-have.
