Default Any news on the 9700 getting OS 6.0?

Just wondering if the 9700 was getting the 6.0 upgrade. From what I've read at Engadget, it looks like it's meant more for touchscreen devices. I really hope not, because I was getting my hopes up on trying the new webkit browser.

I would say they will release their new gsm device for at&t and t-mobile in november first so that people buy their new devices rather than upgrade their old devices. RIMM makes more money this way

8100 and 8700 are antiquated devices.

os 6 has multi touch feature, i dont think rim will let 9700s have os 6 simply because they want us to buy their next generation product

The outdated os needs to catch up. People are jumping ships fast. There's so much other phones are offering.

The 9700 should get the new OS 6.0. The webkit browser, which is a big feature of )S 6.0 was recently unveiled by RIM on a 9700, which would indicate that the 9700 will be one of the devices it should work on.

Not to mention that the 9700 has enough memory under the hood to run the new browser / OS, so I would be very, very surprised if the 9700 didn't make the cut as far as having access to the new OS once it is released.

i'd settle for just the webkit browser, which in theory should be possible based on the demo that was shown of the webkit browser back in Feb... (http://crackberry.com/blackberry-webkit-browser)

but hey, if OS 6.0 is a possibility on my 9700... sign me up!! (although, i wouldn't do it if the 9700 is bare minimum to run it... i wouldn't compromise to get the 6.0 beauty and functionality if it meant my 9700 was slow and laggy as a result... i truly think 512MB min of onboard will be the real-world minimum for OS 6.0, despite whether it can run "OK" on 256MB...

Well, considering that OS 6.0 was running on the 9670 CDMA clamshell, which is not a touch-screen device, it's safe to say that the 9700 won't be ruled out just because it isn't touch. And IIRC, CX said somewhere that there's a bunch of devices out there in the wild running 6.0, so they all can't be 9670's. I'm really confident that this OS will run on our devices, and run well too.
    Current OS Version: 7.0.0.585
    RIM History (03-Present): 7230>7100t>7105t>8100>8130>8220>8900>9530>9700>980 0>9810>9860 FTW! =)

This all depends on how much time and effort the designers put into streamlining the os as compared to 5.0.

The funny thing is... RIM already knows the answer ot this question, and if they wanted to, they could give us all a heads up now. For whatever reason, they don't want to, which is quite frustrating.

You know, I'm not too upset with that clamshell. I just want them to get rid of all of the unnecessary, distracting and contrasting chrome. If it were all black, I would like it!

The Bold needs this, and the Bold 9000 and 9700, heck any high end Blackberry will greatly benefit for a real software upgrade.

Hopefully they made major core upgrades to the OS. If this is just anotehr v4 to v5 update its going to be a disappointment.
