The phone shuts down shortly after it falls below 20%..
Also some times it charges only upto 80-82%..

I have done these steps..
1. After the phone shuts down fully, remove battery, sim and memory card. Pressed the Power button for about 30 secs. Kept it away for about and hour and then put everything back and charged the stuff.
2. After Step 1, the stuff shows complete at about 82% or so.
At this point I remove the battery while it is still connected to power, put the battery back in after the reboot. It would now show 100%.

Not helped. It keeps happening again.
If I don't do Step 2, battery lives upto 0% and even for some extra time in 0.
If I do Step 2, dude dies at around 18%.

Game over for battery?

I use a PNY 80A Power Bank to charge occasionally, recently. Does this screw up the battery?

I suggest you to charge your phone from your computer after step 1.
In this case, if charging stops before 100% then the battery should be checked.

I had the same problem. My battery stopped charging at 80 something %.

I fixed it by doing this:

Allow the phone to charge until it stops charging. In my case, it stopped charging at 86%.

While the charger is still connected, pull the battery out. The phone will work for a few seconds because the charger is connected and then it will turn off itself. The LED will turn red.

Put the battery back in. It'll charge to 100% this time. If it doesn't, then do it again. Mine stopped at 96% so I did it again and it charged to 100% after that.

Note that the charger is always connected to the phone during the whole procedure.
