As of now the hardware is made to supply 32 bit OS and apps... BlackBerry might go on the 64 bit platform but doesn't seem soon as 32 bit is good enough for them!

And 64bit will need all apps to be optimized to run efficiently... no need for BlackBerry to burn precious cash on this now.

I suspect that if not next year, by 2016 they will go to x64 if only because all the new chips will be x64

I'm pretty sure the op didn't mean amd64 when he said x64. Arm v8 isn't all that different, it's meant for high performance servers in the first place...

x64 is two to three years away from making an big difference in smartphone performance, it really hasn't done much for the Iphone yet.. Could boost the encryption speed quite a bit right now tho when setting up a new phone.
