windows phone user, strongly considering bb10...
so i just saw the keynote today, and i must say i am blown away... i have used every OS under the sun since smartphones were invented. started on a windows mobile 6.0 device, then moved to a g1, then a storm, and list goes on... after trying everything, i landed on windows phone being that it is productive, fluent, and the UI vbeing so amazing. however , i am very disappointed with the slow progress the platform is making. recently i was upset with MS when i heard that apollo wouldnt be released on any mango devices, and started thinking, if i was to leave, where would i go? ios is out because i cant stand it... android is out because it is a mess, hmmm what about BB? even before bb10 i was thinking of picking up a 9900. i played with my brothers bold, and bb7 blew me away! i hadnt used a bb since bb5! and that was a huge upgrade! but looking back bb5 was dated compared to current Os's. anyway, the smoothness of the OS and the notifications, had me wanting to make the switch. and now that ive seen bb10 preview... i am >< this close to selling my trophy. only thing is, i read no current BB's would get bb10, so im thinking i should wait? what do you guys think ? if i am to switch, should i wait? is there a future for BB? will there be an eco system comparable to ms?
my first post, although i watch kevin in mobile nations podcast all the time! i must say i appreciate your loyalty kevin! not enough of that these daysformer storm user, may be back! - 05-01-2012, 05:20 PM #2

"iOS is out because I can't stand it". As much as I don't favour iOS (believe me on that one), have you tried using an iPhone?
I recommend you carry on using your Windows Phone and wait until BB10. BB10 looks awesome. In BBRY we trust - 05-01-2012, 05:29 PM #4
Ya, I'd wait till BB10 comes out before you make your decision. I have a playbook so i'm gonna try BB10 on that before I get a BB10 phone.

I guess the question is if you like the BB7 why wait.... If you had a bad experience with the W7 phones with lack of follow through there is no telling what the BB10 final product will look like.... I will be upgrading my 9800 at end of contract this month... I am going to get a 2 year contract... this way it gives me some lead time to enjoy my new phone and look at were BB10 et all when they arrive..... There wil always be sonething to look forward to getting but while you keep waiting for the next best thing... you miss what is here now.....

I think you should wait until the BB10 Phones come out. And to answer your question regarding the ecosystem: I can't say that it will be comparable to MS, but I can tell you the foundation is solid. The PlayBook's OS is a precursor to BB10 and look at it now. More developers are recognizing the capabilities of QNX and the new BlackBerry Platform. Many developers are signing on and developing for BlackBerry. If RIM continues to do what they are doing and improve up on this, then BB10 will be an amazing ecosystem! Don't expect everything to be the way you want it when you do get your BB10 device, but expect it to be great and to get better... infinite potential.

U are asking some questions that many in here can't answer. We don't know the future, but in my opinion, u should wait. No sense in picking up a 9900 when BB10 is rapidly approaching. Will it be as good or better than WP7.5?....only time will tell but things sure are looking great. More will be revealed in due time....just lay back and enjoy the show in the meanwhile
QNX and LTE, hand me a pen and let's do this.

yes i have... i could list all my problems with it, but there is no point. i recently traded an iphone 4 for my htc trophy. well several months ago anyway. my wife still has an iphone 4. and i still manage our music library so i sync her phone and my trophy weekly. itunes is a headache. for example, when i remove a song from my pc, zune recognizes this, and also removes it from my library. itunes on the other hand doesnt... rather it will keep the song in my library, and when i try to play it, it says file cannot be located, and asks what i would like to do... purchasing songs in aac format and having to convert them to play on other devices is also a headache... list goes on... just not a big fan of apples extremely locked, over controlled, over hyped eco system...

long shot with this one, but are there estimated or speculated release dates for bb10? are we thinking 3rd, 4th quarter? or is this a 2013 project?
and the only reason i wouldnt swith now, is i wouldnt want to spend the money on a 9900, only to have to dispose of it. unless i could sell my trophy on ebay, roughly 150 bucks... and pick up a bold 9900 for around the same price used...?
edit* looks like they are selling for 250-300, so thats a no go... =( just not sure if its worth spending the extra 100 to pick one up yet or not...Last edited by DizzyMaker; 05-01-2012 at 06:28 PM.

This hasn't been announced; it's all speculation at this point. I happen to think that current WP phones won't get WP8 but that opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.
So it's too early to be upset about that.
But if the rest of BB10 lives up to what we saw today in terms of quality, the bar for WP8 has been raised significantly. This may make it even less likely that current WP7 phones will see WP8, if MS reacts by trying to build even more into WP8 in order to compete with BB10. - 05-02-2012, 08:39 AM #12

strongly considering the torch 9860, or the bold 9930... i will probably puul the trigger when i get back from jamaica in 2 weeks... any recommendations between the 2? both are equal as far as specs and both running bb7. touch screen or qwerty is a toss up for me, any benefits for one or the other?

I love my 9850 (the 9860 twin brother) it has a decent sized screen and its pretty fast, it comes with 4 gigs of memory built in and also with a 4 gig memory card. The qwerty touch keyboard definetly takes some getting used to but all in all its a great phone, but it is getting EOLed so buying one from your carrier might be hard but If you go to wireless.amazon.com or even buy it here from crackberry you can find it and also probably for between $100-$130.

This is a great community. It seem that's trendy nowadays to beat it on BB no matter what. It's weird that yesterday I happened to be by an AT&T store and went in to look at the Lumia, not that I was thinking of jumping ship, and then in afternoon we get this first look at BB10. Of course, I'm like I can't wait.

The main difference between the Torch 9860/9850 and the Bold 9900/9930 is the screen and keyboard. Internally they are identical except onboard storage is 4GB on the Torch vs. 8 GB on the Bold (a microSD card though makes it a moot point). I have a 9850 and it has the largest current BB screen at 3.7", with a resolution of 800x480. The Bold has a smaller touchscreen but has the famous keyboard. I'm on my second touchscreen BB (first was the Storm 9530), so I appreciate the larger screen more than the keyboard, although I've found I don't quite like the virtual keyboard on the 9850 compared to the Storm. So if I had to do it again (knowing that my PlayBook also takes care of my large screen needs), I'd probably go with a Bold. But I really do like the feel of the 9850 (very ergonomic).
The Bold is made of more premium materials, and costs more. Having said that, the Torch feels pretty premium to me (compared to a Curve, for example). If cost is a factor, and you don't need a physical keyboard, the Torch might be a good way to go for now, and you could always later switch to BB10.Thanked by:DizzyMaker#CB (05-02-2012)
