As long as someone makes an app, it will. Essentially the app would use the camera and look for the barcode.

The app is as good as the data base provided. You are not going to get the retail industry to provide their pricing for obvious reason. The pricing is usually generic and much higher than you can get on most retail stores. It's not a useful app per se.

I'd like the basic Camera app to be able to tell that it's a barcode and offer me an opt-out way to send that barcode to a shopping app or the browser. Having to choose the app specifically that can parse a barcode seems like an annoying extra step when the camera should be able to quickly tell that it's a barcode NOT a zebra, and then prompt you "hey, you just took a picture of a barcode... you wanna do something useful with it or did you really just want to take a picture of a barcode?"

I hope the basic camera app has an easily-accessible option to "automatically identify barcodes".
