Everything on the playbook works fine without BB service (data) inc. Email.

Will this be the case with BB10 phones?

Has there been any news on this front?

That being said rumor mill time.. I thought during the last earnings report it was discussed that bis might not be required in the future (part of the reason the stock tanked back during that week in december because analysts were worried about revenues being lost from a lack of it.)

I think it's a general loss to sales as it costs �5 pcm, in the uk. Maybe the balance feature between business and personal (private) will at least give this choice.

No. You will not need BIS with BB10. It will access data just like an Android or iPhone. You will access BBM through your BlackBerry ID. Apparently some time after the December 20th. earnings call, Heins said that users will no longer have to get a BlackBerry plan (BIS).

I thought RIM stated last Nov that BIS will still be required with the BB10 phones no matter what. But that during the Dec earnings call, it was stated that they where looking at possible tiered BIS plans like some carriers in Europe and Asia already offer.
