    Suggestions seem to be to reload OS .. cant do that if you have the latest version ... does a restore to a previous OS wipe out data?

    Yes, it will wipe your data. Your issue with text messaging is a known one to many with 10.3.1, if I'm not wrong, the text messages freeze for few minutes, right?
