I didn't realise we were only talking about the US as Jolla only sell in Europe at the moment. I don't agree about getting updates if you buy directly from the manufacturer as this would mean anybody that bought an unlocked BlackBerry such as myself would get updates directly. This isn't the case.

Well, I know the OP is in the US, and many here are frustrated with the fact that the big 3 here - AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are all still on 10.1. And, for sure, both AT&T and Verizon haven't even bothered releasing the 10.1 MR to this day.

I'm not waiting on AT&T. I'm on the latest 10.2.1 leak. But, the OP has his reasons for not wanting to go that route, and that's his choice.

As far as getting updates from manufacturer sold phones, well, Google sends out updates directly to their direct sold Nexus phones without going through whatever carrier you have.

BlackBerry maybe doesn't do it quite like that. But unlocked Z10s with AT&T sims still got an official 10.2 a while back.

What? I don't think that's right. I have an unlocked Z10 with a TMO SIM and there is no update available. No offense, but I question if your post is correct.

Maybe there was more to it, but unlocked Z10s with AT&T sims did get a 10.2 update back in early November.

I just unlocked my AT&T Q10, ordered a Bell micro sim from Ebay, and updated to 10.2 over wifi that way. Well worth the money, 10.2 is a lot better, big upgrade!
