I'm typing this on my awesome Z3. Coming from other platforms, ie Windows Phone 8.1 and Android I'm really loving everything about BlackBerry 10 and the Z3. It's a great phone...But,

At 5" it's pretty big. Especially to type on. The keyboard is great. I'm really getting used to flicking the words as I type but to hold the dang thing and type at the same time is pretty difficult. This is where a good swipe keyboard would really shine.

I know, I know, that's for Android and WP (and iOS too) freaks. The BlackBerry keyboard is perfect as it is..but hear me out.

You can type 2 ways, one is holding the phone in one hand and using your thumb to type with the others. It works, but it's slow and takes away the efficiency advantage that is built into the keyboard.

The other way is by balancing the Zed 3 on your pinkie fingers, holding it on each side with your index, and typing away with both thumbs. It works great as long as you can balance the phone and not drop it! The z3 is big n heavy.

So my point is, as phones get bigger and bigger it will become harder to type with both hands. The best alternative I see then is swiping with one thumb and holding it in the other. From my experience on WP swipe is surprisingly accurate. After a few says it was very natural and quick.

Anyway, I miss swipe. So until 10.3.xx cones out with a swipe keyboard function I'll try and not drop my really awesome Zed3

So with swipe you never have to touch the left side of the screen if you right handed?

I think BlackBerry should allow third party keyboards through BlackBerry World but similar to Headless apps, it'll have to be tested before approved

I would love to see a swipe keyboard. Even if they allowed for third party keyboards, that would be fine.

One of the things I like about BlackBerry 10 is the keyboard though. It is amazing. One of the primary reasons I'm on the platform actually.

Either way, sometimes I need to type with one hand and that is where a swipe keyboard shines. Would love to see BlackBerry implement this or at least allow a third party to do so.

The one for the Nokia Lumia is better because it gives you both options to type regularly or to swype. Personally the current method is faster, but swype is easier for those lazy moments.

I have installed the Swiftkey keyboard with swype function on both my Z10 and Z30 and did not like it. Went back to the standard OS10 keyboard within days.

I was using Swype with Samsung before upgrading to BlackBerry. No comparison for me. Word Prediction on either the Q10 or Z30 far outshines the benefits of Swype. Most often I am typing only 1-2 letters of each word, which is extremely fast.

Once you get used to the bb10 keyboard you will never look back at Swype, as many have said.

I looked at installing SwiftKey on my iPad, but after reading the user agreement about their data collection of what you do with it I decided not to bother. On my Z30, I therefore prioritize using BB's own apps as I find them less intrusive.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for all-black of your responses. it looks like things are divided into two camps, the "I like options so give me Swipe" camp, and the "BlackBerry 10 keyboard is the best once you get used to it" camp. I appreciate that. Let me stoke the fire a bit..

I agree that the BlackBerry kb is awesome. For me it's not a "getting used to it" issue. It's a 1 thumb typing vs. 2. Like I said, the Z3 is a big phone. It can be challenging at times to type safely with 2. And, 1 thumb typing can be very convenient. So I guess I fall into the "options" camp.

By the way, Have you used a Windows Phone 8.1 keyboard extensively? If you have then you know it's a *ell of a keyboard. Every bit as good as BB's IMHO.
It's very accurate and word predictions is spot on. The Swipe feature in 8.1 is amazingly accurate. I've even tried to be lazy and sloppy to see if it knew what I wanted to type and in most cases it did.

Anyway, I love my z3..just wanted to share..
