I'm amazed at people that complain about boot times, given how infrequently they are required.

However, last time I was going back and forth with a guy (I imagine it was a guy) about this, he "won" by saying that: "what if you're in a car accident, the battery falls out as the phone tumbles around, you're somehow able to recover both and then,.. that LONG BOOT TIME could literally be the difference between life and death"

    So yeah... don't do that.

Unfortunately there are plenty of threads complaining about that,.. but hopefully that guy isn't part of them!

I wish our phones booted faster too. At the very least the phone part should be up and running in under 10 seconds for emergencies. Also, QNX is a microkernel which should be small enough that an integrity check would be completed faster than is currently happening. File modification can be checked on a running system.

Is this to prevent people stealing the OS and loading it onto another device eg BB10 on Android/WP/Iphone? If so, then BlackBerry needs to break this down even further so that the essential core is decrypted first and the non-essential features decrypted in the background after the UI has loaded or add a unique hardware decrypter exclusive to BlackBerry devices

I love BB10 and I'm currently trying OS7 on a Torch 9810 which seems to require reboots after app installs/uninstalls so I can appreciate the improvements. Notwithstanding the fact that BB10 hardly requires rebooting, It is bad, Really, really Bad form in today's world to present a static, non-interactive screen to the user while you do stuff in the background for more than 30 seconds.

Maybe, security-related services. Still, the PlayBook has the crown as the device with the slower boot-time.
I think my old 9700 might be the true champion in this regard

My Z10 takes 1:45 from screen off to up-and-running, hub included.
