What do you guys think of this? Wouldn't it be so much more efficient if Blackberry pushed the OS updates independently, instead of having carriers doing the job?

Update:In favor of blackberry vs carriers,97.96% vs 2.04% out of approx. 192 people.

Just so long as no model gets left out, otherwise these forums get inundated with complaints.

Of course no model gets left out. The update should come within the same day or 2 based on time zone.

BlackBerry does not have sufficient power over the carriers to mandate this.

Apple wasn't so big either when they started iphone yet that's the way they've always done it. So I don't buy that argument.

Apple gave exclusivity to o2 here in the UK so they could demand anything as part of that deal.

In return Vodafone had the "Storm", and Vodafone got burnt.

It would be awesomesauce but isn't it up to the carriers?

BTW awhile back I thought I read that they would be bypassing the carriers doing just that. Another rumor that seems false.

It is up to the carriers currently. But Apple pushes their own updates across all their models, this is the right way to do it.

I sure hope BB can swing this instead of the carriers.

Great Poll Dave , lets see if BB can deliver our updates this way.

The "official" leaks don't seem to be working consistently for all the US carriers, and Blackberry has complete control over BB Link and the latest update did not really improve anything, so I'm not too sure direct updates would be better.

I think that apple got lucky when they first struck their exclusive deal with AT&T... they asked for it and they got it. Then it just snowballed cause everyone wanted to carry the iphone.

I think BlackBerry is doing the best they can to "Pressure" carriers to push the updates out. Remember last time when 10.0.1 came out, they announced it on twitter Facebook and we got all this onslaught of people calling their carrier.

So when 10.1 start to show up, call your carrier and ask for it! They will pretend they don't know but insist.

Does this even need a vote? I mean really, who is going to pick "carrier"?

I vote yes, but know it's not possible due to BlackBerry not being in the financial situation to demand anything from carriers right now. Especially when they need to gain market share, and to do that they have to not only sell, but also have carriers pushing th phone.

Basically BlackBerry needs to be in there good graces.

I'm not sure why they stopped delivery of OS the old way. Pretty straight forward I thought.

Leaks are for testing meaning they aren't official release.

This is just to prove a point, that if they decide to do this they would get high approval from customers and future customers. Assuming this method is less prone to problems which I would think so.

It is not a matter of "deciding". What would be in it for the carriers to give this up and lose complete control over os versions on their devices that they are obliged to fully support?

It's enough we have to pay these carriers for our service ,it's obvious we don't need them to control our OS updates also.

So you think carriers should be forced to support os versions they have not tested and trained on yet? I'm sure they would love BlackBerry for that!

The question is moot. The model doesn't work.

I love to get immediate updates. Obviously.

I, and most of us here, do not require support - we can muddle though ourselves.

Most people need support. Carriers provide that support. Carriers can only support an os they have trained on.

    Thread over.
