I have a Z10 brought from Fido Canada. I would like for it to be unlocked. Is there any reason why I should unlock it by Fido ($50) over a third party website (eg. canadaunlocking.com)?

Having used private unlocking services for years I see no reason to pay a carrier the extra money. So long as the code comes with a guarantee there should be no problem.

Thanks. After unlocking, if I do a wipe, will the phone stay unlocked?

I bought my q10 from koodo and unlocked it for $20 or less online with a code about 2 years ago. No reason to overpay. The phone stays unlocked after a wipe.

DId you end up unlocking with canadaunlocking.com? And are you happy with their service?

I hadn't unlocked my phone yet. There is a warning on the checkout process that the exclusive unlock for Fido / Rogers will not work for my phone since it has a RDV number. I would need to use the worldwide option ($38). However, there is warning that there is no refund for RDV number model if the code doesn't work. Thus, I am looking for another unlocking service with RDV guarantee.

I see. I had ordered from BlackberryCodeSource and have finally received my unlock code. It works great, but I had to leave a bad review and start a dispute via PayPal to get service. I was in the process of looking for another source when they finally contacted me. There is a thread on here about them, many other people have the same issue. If you don't mind keeping on top of them, and being aggressive they do good work, although I am hesitant to recommend anyone use their service considering the lengths you have to go through to get it done.

    I used freemyblackberry.com for a Q10.
Although there was a delay because the phone was locked to Telus but had never been activated, freemyblackberry did provide the unlock code. It cost CAD24 because it is a BB10 phone.
