These are available in BBOS too.

There is a built-in substitution, "ld", for "Long Date", that expands to Thu , Apr 15 , 2013. The code that produces it is "%D". But you can create a short date sub if you use the "%d" code instead, and you'll get 4/18/2013, which is sometimes handier.

You can do a similar thing with the "lt" sub, for "Long Time", 10:07:24 PM. The short format excludes secs.

No. If you just type "ld" anytime, you'll get the long date inserted. In the Word Sub list itself, you'll find "ld" mapped to %D, which is a code that the OS interprets and puts the long form date in.

If you go into Word Sub, you'll see that there are a few codes like this:

"lt" mapped to %T, for long format time.
"mynumber" mapped to %p, for your phone number. I've shortened this to "mynum"
"mypin" mapped to %P, for your device PIN (actually, they put a : in front of it, for some reason).
"myver" mapped to %V, for your hardware and OS version.
"br" mapped to %B, for (.
"rb" mapped to %b, for ).

I find those last two a bit odd.

Those are the codes you'll find if you look in Word Sub right now, and you haven't added or deleted anything.

But I decided to experiment. If %D is the code for long format date, maybe %d is the code for short format date, even though it's not listed. Sure enough, it is. Same thing with time. So you can create short format date and short format time subs, just as I've done.

There may well be other undocumented codes waiting for shortcuts. I haven't been through the whole alphabet to try it. I did try %v to see if it would produce a shortened version number of some sort, but it only produces "%v"!
