There is no catch.

Is this like when you do an email in Google Mail and say there's an attachment and you don't out an attachment Google will stop the email till you attach a video?

Seems that you got it correct and solved this "bug".

If your email title has the word VIDEO in it, but you do NOT attach a video in the email, that email will fail to send.

I really don't think BB10 has this "feature"/"bug"... I just tried it several times and it still sent.
